The Organic Materials Review Institute is a non-profit, independent organization that certifies what products can be safely used on organic produce. While hand picking or digging is always the best choice for wildlife, these products are safer alternatives to chemical herbicides.
Two producst that pass their test: Burnout, a clove and citrus oil weed killer widely available at places like Walmart and Avenger Weed Killer, also widely available in stores or on line.

Safe Recipe for brick walkways
This recipe is ideal for brick walkways, stone terraces, shell driveways or sidewalks—places where you want absolutely no plants to grow. Repeat 2x per season.
Mix well: 1 gallon white vinegar
1 cup salt
1 teaspoon liquid dish soap
Pour over the area preferably during a sunny day (using a slim-spouted watering can is recommended to avoid getting it on lawns, or on any plants you do want to grow.)
